"Kolkata to get Water Metro connectivity," says Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari
A major construction accident occurred in Visakhapatnam on Sunday when an under-construction railway bridge collapsed near Tunglam in the Gajuwaka area. The incident took place as workers were in the process of pouring concrete on the structure. Without warning, the scaffolding supporting the bridge suddenly gave way, trapping several laborers beneath the debris. The project, intended to relieve traffic congestion caused by the narrow old bridge near Duvvada Railway Station, has now become the focus of a major safety investigation.
Local residents and police personnel rushed to the scene immediately to initiate rescue operations. Through their combined efforts, seven injured workers—identified as Buddheswar, Bose, Ajith, Dinesh, Tushar, Pratap, and Uday—were successfully extricated from the rubble. All seven individuals were promptly shifted to a private hospital for urgent medical attention. While the full extent of their injuries is currently being assessed by medical professionals, the site has been secured as officials begin their work.
The collapse has sparked immediate concerns regarding the quality of materials and safety standards being enforced at the construction site. Authorities have launched an official inquiry to determine the exact cause of the structural failure and to assign responsibility for the oversight.
